What is a Bonnell spring mattress?
A Bonnell spring mattress uses a traditional spring system with a core of interconnected springs. The springs are usually made of steel and give firm, resilient support. Bonnell springs are less refined than pocket springs, but they are still a reliable choice for basic comfort.
Features of Bonnell spring mattresses:
- Firm support: the springs give a stable, firm base.
- Ventilation: the open structure of the springs allows good air circulation, which helps to carry away moisture and heat.
- Affordable: thanks to their simple design, Bonnell spring mattresses are budget-friendly.
The benefits of Bonnell spring mattresses
- Budget-friendly:
- Bonnell spring mattresses are among the most affordable types of mattress on the market. That makes them ideal for people on a limited budget or for guest rooms.
- Suitable for lighter sleepers:
- These mattresses give enough support for people with a light to average body weight.
- Ventilation:
- Thanks to their open structure, Bonnell spring mattresses are very breathable and stay fresh, even with intensive use.
- Long-lasting with occasional use:
- For temporary sleeping arrangements or less frequent use, Bonnell spring mattresses last a long time.
The limitations of Bonnell spring mattresses
Although Bonnell spring mattresses are affordable and practical, they do have some limitations:
- Less comfort:
- Compared with pocket sprung, memory foam or latex mattresses, Bonnell spring mattresses offer less pressure relief and adapt less to your body.
- Limited support:
- Bonnell spring mattresses are less suitable for heavier people or people with specific back problems.
- Motion transfer:
- Because the springs are linked, movement on one side of the mattress can be felt on the other.
Who is a Bonnell spring mattress for?
Bonnell spring mattresses are ideal for:
- Buyers on a budget: anyone looking for an affordable mattress without extras.
- Guest rooms: perfect for occasional use.
- Children: suitable for lighter users such as children, who often like to jump on their beds.
- Temporary sleeping arrangements: for example in student accommodation or for spare beds.
